The Washington Hotel group announced that some of their servers have suffered unauthorized in a ransomware attack.
“In response to this incident, we have established a task force and, with the advice of external experts, are currently investigating the cause, confirming the extent of the damage, and investigating whether any information has been leaked, as well as working to restore the system,” the company said in a statement.
The group added that it would take more time to fully investigate the extent of the damage. Unauthorized access was detected on February 13 and confirmed.
“We immediately shut down our external network to prevent further damage, established an internal task force on February 14, and are consulting with the police and external experts,” Washington Hotel said.
Still, the firm said customer information for its membership organization, “Washington Net,” is stored on a server managed by a different company. Regarding this, “no unauthorized access has been confirmed at this time.”
The company added that while some of their hotels have experienced issues with credit card terminals, this has not significantly impacted business operations.
“We will work with external experts and system-related organizations to quickly restore operations. We are currently examining the impact of this incident on our business performance, and will make prompt announcements if necessary,” the group said.
Based in Nagoya City, the group operates hotel chains under the brands Washing Hotel Plaza and Washington R&B. It also manages restaurants in golf course clubhouses.
