Navigating with multiple security platforms that don’t communicate is like sailing with a fractured compass, especially for a container leasing firm operating across 23 offices and approximately 500 depots and ports worldwide.
Seaco, which is continuously expanding its global footprint, has now made scalability and adaptability top priorities in its cybersecurity strategy. In a modern enterprise, data silos, disparate systems, and repetitive tasks need to be offloaded before they cause operations to drift off course.
“Managing multiple security tools led to fragmented visibility and operational inefficiencies, making it harder to enforce consistent security policies across our global network,” said Damian Leach, Chief Information Officer at Seaco.
Dead in the water
As a result of using numerous security solutions that varied by location, Seaco’s security team had to manually correlate insights across platforms, significantly delaying their response to detected threats.
Likewise, protecting data housed in multiple locations was far from smooth sailing.
“We needed a solution that could effectively secure both employee and customer data across all interactions and devices, regardless of how these interactions occur. Our global footprint and diverse operational landscape made this particularly crucial,” Leach said.
Seeking to balance cost, complexity, capability, visibility, and control across its cybersecurity platforms, the company began looking for a new technology partner. During a comprehensive evaluation process, Seaco carefully assessed features, AI integration, and compatibility with its end-to-end IT environment. It ultimately selected Trend Micro.
Two major factors drove the decision: First was Trend Micro’s unified platform approach. Second was its ability to surface insights through AI-powered analytics across network, email, cloud, laptop, and server environments, offering ease of use and advanced capabilities.
“A standout feature is the AI capabilities built into the Trend Vision One platform, which complements our human-in-the-loop decision-making strategy. For instance, the AI-powered summarisation of security telemetry not only enhances visibility but also enables our security team to act faster, limiting the blast radius of potential threats,” Leach said.
According to him, the platform can also tailor information for different users. Whether providing detailed technical data for security operations teams, analytical tools for cyber defence experts, or executive-level dashboards for leadership, the system automatically adapts its presentation and functionality to each user’s role and needs.
“The platform’s adaptability, along with its intuitive interface, makes it easier for our teams to use and manage security operations more efficiently,” he added.
Seamless operation
To address Seaco’s complexity challenges, Trend Micro ensured that the company would not be deploying a patchwork of loosely connected solutions.
“Trend Vision One was designed as an integrated platform, with all components working together, sharing telemetry, and enabling automated responses across the entire security stack,” said David Ng, Managing Director of Singapore, Philippines, and Indonesia at Trend Micro.
For Seaco, this meant managing its entire security environment through a single console, with integrated security controls for cloud, endpoint, and network security.
“By consolidating these functions, Seaco can reduce complexity while improving visibility and control. Our platform’s AI-driven analytics also help surface the most relevant insights, enabling Seaco’s security team to make faster, more informed decisions without getting lost in the noise of multiple disparate systems,” Ng explained.
Meanwhile, as cyberthreats continue to evolve, Seaco recognised the need to strengthen its security posture beyond traditional defences.
“Trend Micro’s platform empowers our Security Operations Centre (SOC) to apply dynamic security controls tailored to different asset types — whether customer-facing applications or critical internal systems. This ensures that sensitive data is safeguarded while maintaining operational flexibility,” Leach remarked.
With the reduced complexity of its security management, Seaco’s security teams can now prioritise proactive risk mitigation rather than reactive troubleshooting, Leach said.
Charting a new course
While AI enhances cybersecurity, Trend Micro acknowledges its limitations in threat detection and response, advocating for a balanced approach that combines AI’s speed and pattern recognition with human expertise and judgment.
“AI can have blind spots, particularly when it comes to novel attacks that do not match its training patterns, such as zero-day threats or sophisticated targeted attacks. It may also generate false positives, overwhelming security teams with false alarms,” Ng said.
For Seaco, the immediate priority is strengthening its SOC capabilities with Trend Micro’s platform. This includes using AI-powered telemetry analysis to speed up decision-making while ensuring security teams remain actively involved in threat detection and response across its global operations.
The marine container leasing firm is also focused on developing and implementing more comprehensive security policies to protect a wide range of assets, from customer-facing systems to internal crown jewel assets.
“This is crucial for protecting both employee and customer data across all interactions and devices, particularly as our IT infrastructure evolves and we adopt new technologies,” Leach said.
As Seaco grows, it has deliberately chosen a platform approach that can scale with its digital transformation initiatives, support new technologies and customer experiences, and maintain robust security controls. This adaptability, Leach stressed, is essential as Seaco continues to expand its services and global presence.
