SAESL taps Kyndryl to modernize digital infrastructure at Seletar

Singapore Aero Engine Services (SAESL), the world’s largest maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility for Rolls-Royce’s latest generation of Trent engines, picked Kyndryl to build its core IT systems, data processes, and operational technology (OT) infrastructure at the company’s facility in Seletar Aerospace Park, Singapore.

A joint venture between Rolls-Royce and SIA Engineering, SAESL currently handles maintenance for over 20% of the world’s Rolls-Royce Trent engines, propelling aircraft such as the Airbus A330, A350, and A380, as well as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner worldwide.

To drive innovation and efficiencies with a streamlined system that enables technicians to work more efficiently with a better user experience, Kyndryl is expected to enable SAESL in modernising its digital infrastructure, including IT communication, OT, administration office, and data approval and tracking (DAT) management capabilities using cloud technology.

This will help employees make informed decisions on how to manage data as well as automate the categorisation of engine data like temperatures, pressures, and vibrations, using easily accessible videos, pictures, audio, and text files on the cloud at a reduced storage cost.

“We are experiencing rapid growth as the travel sector regains momentum, and we selected Kyndryl as our IT partner for our Seletar facility to build on a successful, innovation-driven partnership since 2022,” said Simon Middlebrough, CEO of SAESL.

“At SAESL, we manage extensive volumes of critical engine data, and organising this data efficiently can be challenging. With Kyndryl’s expertise and industry insight, we now have advanced data management systems and IT infrastructure to meet the rising global demand for aero engine MRO,” said Middlebrough.

Kyndryl is also building tools for SAESL to apply specific retention policies to various different documents, based on category and sensitivity, to comply with regulatory requirements.

Kyndryl will implement and integrate a comprehensive end-to-end solution using advanced OEM technologies for IT infrastructure including systems and network equipment configuration, UPS systems, and cloud capabilities.

This integration aims to simplify network management, enhance operational efficiency, and improve system resilience, giving SAESL a robust and scalable solution that supports seamless connectivity and improved efficiency across its new infrastructure.

“The aviation industry is evolving rapidly, with companies like SAESL leading the charge to deliver more innovative aircraft maintenance initiatives,” said Andrew Lim, managing director at Kyndryl ASEAN.

“Its Seletar facility will be powered by the latest cloud technology, helping SAESL drive further improvements in efficiency and user experience with data-driven decision making,” said Lim.
