Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, Amazon to put up a Joint Innovation Centre in China

Chengdu Hi-tech Zone has signed a cooperation agreement with Amazon Web Services (Beijing) for a Joint Innovation Centre project.

Their plan is to establish an accelerator, incubator, international maker space and talent base as well as attract global leading enterprises, start-ups and industrial talents of the fields of artificial intelligence.

The establishment of AWS in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone is expected to  help promote cloud computing in the western regions of China, accelerate innovation and senior talent cultivation as well as drive the technical upgrading of local enterprises.

In 2018 the GDP of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone reached about 188 billion renminbi (around $27 billion), with the year-on-year growth of 9.6%. It attracted 28,000 new enterprises as well as 93 incubators.

Chengdu Hi-tech Zone will support the Joint Innovation Centre Project in the fields of industry, technology, talents and training by creating an international business environment to attract various middle and high-end talents.

The Joint Innovation Centre will incubate 500 domestic and overseas start-ups and complete upgrade acceleration of 120 enterprises within five years. The goal is to cultivate 20-30 gazelle companies as well as two to three unicorn or quasi-unicorn companies.
