The world is becoming increasingly urbanized. According to World Bank, over half of the global population lived in areas in 2018 – that is projected to increase to two-thirds by 2050. Little wonder that municipal governments worldwide are embracing the concept of smart cities – cities that leverage ICT and digital technologies to become more efficient, cost-effective, sustainable and useful to its citizens.
It’s an inspiring vision, but is it a realistic one? Creating smarter cities starts with two things: a clear idea of what you want to achieve, and a clear understanding of where you’re starting from.
